Southern Trails

Introduction. This section of the GRITS Web site provides projects that encourage student investigation of the southern outdoors, including: animals and insects, geology and geography, weather and climate, and environmental studies.

Southern Trails Projects.

  • Auto-bugography Project--In this project, classes will combine their science and research skills with creative writing to compose "Auto-bugographies" of insects in the southeast.
  • Beneath the Surface--This project explores geological features of the southeast.
  • Finding Ourselves Using Topographic Maps--During this project, students will combine their social studies, science, language arts and math skills to take a look at where they are within the school, the county, the state and the world.
  • Rivers Above and Below--This project explores environmental issues of river basins of the southeast.
  • Horrific Hurricanes Project--This online project provides students the opportunity to use science, mathematics, geography and language arts skills to explore hurricanes of the past century.
  • Mother Nature's Fury--This new Webquest for Grades 3-5 provides students with the opportunity to learn more about hurricanes using the Web as a safe, educational research tool.
  • Hurricane Warning--This new Webquest for Grades 6-8 provides students with the opportunity to learn more about hurricanes using the Web as a safe, educational research tool.
